John Kerry: We Were Basically At Peace on 9/11

John Kerry once again made a fool of himself by claiming that on September 11 "we were basically at peace."

At peace? Between the first bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, to the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole in 2000 to the terrorist attacks the morning of 9/11, for Kerry to think that we were "basically at peace," just proves how ignorant he is.

The Hill's Blog Briefing Room reports Kerry's so-called "clarification."

Asked to clarify his remarks, specifically asking about the attacks on the U.S.S. Cole during Barack Obama campaign conference call, Kerry said, "well, we hadn't declared war," The Hill's Sam Youngman reports.

Is that so? So does that mean peace can be achieved simply by not declaring war, or un-declaring war?

What an idiot.

Asked if al Qaeda was a threat at the time, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee said, "well yes, obviously they were a threat. But, fundamentally we were not at war at that point in time."

Kerry also called John McCain "out of step with history and facts."

Isn't that rich? Kerry says we were basically at peace on September 11, and McCain is the one "out of step with history and facts."

Jim Ogonowski released the following statement in response to Kerry's idiotic remarks.

"Either John Kerry is naïve or he is actually using this tragedy for political propaganda to capture more headlines for himself in this election cycle. Does he know this was not the first attack on the very building taken down on September 11th? Does he consider the bombings of our embassies in Tanzania and Kenya and on American troops on the U.S.S. Cole as being "basically at peace"?

On the morning of September 11, 2001, America and the world were reminded that evil in the hearts of only a few men can cause harm to many. Those attacks were not planned in a day. Islamic extremists had long before declared war on America and American interests. While September 11th was a day of peace to John Kerry, for me it was the day I lost my brother. I think it would be very appropriate for John Kerry to apologize to the victims and the families of those lost on that day for his remarks."

I don't see this as too newsworthy. It's the whole 'Token socialist roots for the destruction of capitalists' thing the Democrats have been doing for the past few years.

I mean let's be honest. We've seen the dumb things Kerry says on his own, just imagine what Kerry will probably say now that he's got a black guy to shield him!

Basically he is right. Where was the war before 9/11? A terrorist attack does not mean we are at war. It seems like all you pro-life types get your sexual jollies out of war, weapons and the military. How morally and intellectually bankrupt!

No, there was no war until John Kerry and Nancy Pelosi authorized it.

We were not at peace when we were attacked on 9/11. Bin Laden had declared all out war on America in 1998. Its unfortunate that the Clinton and Bush administration chose to ignore all the attacks on Americans before 9/11. We all know now that our leaders could have taken steps to prevent 9/11. The Cole attack was a wake call for our government. They ignored it. And all the evidence that they had at the time was not acted on. Our sons death in the Cole attacked could have ment something. Instead Clinton and Bush swept it under the carpet. Oh! Kerry is an idiot. he cannot help himself. Agent Orange got him in the war.

It is truly frightening to think that Kerry could be our next Secretary of State.

I think that, relatively speaking, he's not really off here. If you're not "at war," you're "at peace." Now there is never a really time that all is quiet on the international front, but generally, we were certainly not in war mode on September 10.

Also, I find it curious that this blog cites Jim Ogonowski's rebuttal, like his is any more relevant to the issue than the guys who run this blog or me.

Ogonowski is a guy who runs for office and loses. You can fantasize all day about him beating John Kerry, but the reality is that Kerry, dope though he may be, is going nowhere. Particularly in what is generally considered a Democratic year, in a Democratic state, and in the home of one of the most beloved Democratic leaders, who is currently dying of cancer.

Matt, I don't think it'd even matter if it was a FANTASTIC year for Republicans to run, the infrastructure DOES NOT exist within the Republican party to be able to run state-wide races outside of the governorship.

I think Jimmy-O is a fantastic candidate, but as per usual, he's being run for US Senate because 1.) No one else is around to do it and 2.) the wanna be social climbers want to pretend that they're still relevant in the state and will give any good candidate as much bad advise as it takes to convince him to deep six his or her political future so the half-wits on the state committee can parade around telling people they helped a guy run for US Senate.

My father in law sits on the Chelmsford Democratic town committee and is CONVINCED Oginowski could have literally WALKED AWAY with a state rep or state senate seat and so am I. But for whatever reason the logic in the MassGOP is lose for selectboard, run for governor. I hate sounding like a broken record here, but there's no evidence to support that Jim Oginowski would have even a long shot state-wide. Hell, there isn't any evidence to support him winning in his own district. Other than just saying we have a candidate, I fail to see any advantage to Jim running for this seat.

Again, the concept of incrementalism and building the party from the ground-up have been completely thrown by the wayside.

R's unite behind Towney007! He's talking sense which is short supply in R circles with peanut brains ike V dominating the discussion. As the R's like to say "we should run it like a business" (I assume they include those taxpayer subsidies and bought and paid for professors and think tanks...)Well, if the R party was a business it would be bankrupt and all the Directors and officers would be walking the plank...HELLO? IS THERE A CARTOONIST IN THE HOUSE?

I absolutely agree, Townie. The MassGOP has absolutely no strategy and is touting nonsense in attempting at Kerry's seat. Likewise, Oginowski could absolutely win a lower level contest.

Will John Kerry promise the voters of Massachusetts to serve his full term and not accept a position in an Obama administration? Do we want the expense of a second election?
